The Edge Five in A Row

Class for Tuesday, September 23, 2008

We will be reading the book How to Make an Apple Pie and see the world by Marjorie Priceman.

An apple pie is easy to make...if the market is open. But if the market is closed, the world becomes your grocery store. This deliciously silly recipe for apple pie takes readers around the globe to gather ingredients. First hop a steamboat to Italy for the finest semolina wheat. Then hitch a ride to England and hijack a cow for the freshest possible milk. And, oh yes! Don't forget to go apple picking in Vermont!

In class we will be exporing the letter "A" as well as explore the smells and tectures of the ingredients the little baker needs to make an apple pie - cinnimom sticks, nutmeg, sugar, butter, and eggs. We will also share some apples to eat as our snack of the day.

We will have a coloring page, a letter page, and discuss other healthy snacks to eat.

We will also read another story at the end of class during teacher clean up, but as of now, I am undecided on the book we will feature! Any suggestions will be welcomed. It can be a book about snacks (last week we read the Berenstein Bears and Junk Food), a book about the world, or even a book about baking!
